Due to a recent change made by the Missouri State Legislature, the presidential primary process in the state of Missouri is different in 2024 than in previous years. Before the law changed, the presidential primary election was run by the state of Missouri and local boards of elections, and voters could go to their usual polling places and vote just like in any other primary or general election. After the law changed, the state of Missouri and local boards of elections no longer handle the presidential primary process. Instead, each political party in Missouri is expected to run its own selection process for the presidential primary.
In 2024, the Missouri Republican Party chose to hold a caucus. The Missouri Democratic Party, however chose to hold a party-run presidential primary, where voters could vote by mail or in person at polling places across the state.
